Prepare the test solution

If you have ordered multiple tests, perform only one test per day.

  1. Pour test solution into a large cup. Boil water, then pour approx. 100ml of boiled (hot) water into the cup containing the test solution, mix thoroughly until dissolved.
  2. Add cold water into the same cup according to the measurements in Table 1. (For children under 35kg, halve the volume of cold water before adding to cup).
  3. Set solution aside to cool. Do not drink solution yet, please wait until after sample #1 is collected.

Collect breath sample

Refer to images and instructions below to collect sample #1.

Hold blue mouthpiece in one hand and a tube in the other hand. Take a normal breath in and hold for 15 seconds. Exhale (blow out) normally into mouthpiece. As you exhale, the bag will start to inflate – keep blowing. (Children/asthmatics can hold their breath for 10 seconds).

Once the bag is fully inflated, insert the tube into the tube holder so the white rubber stopper on the top of the tube is punctured – keep blowing. (Please note, there is a small hole in the blue bag to allow continuous airflow, please do not cover this hole).

After 2-3 seconds pull the tube out of the tube holder. You can now stop blowing. Record details onto tube sticker and affix to your tube. The tube must only be inserted into the tube holder after you have begun exhaling. You can stop exhaling after the tube has been withdrawn. Tube must only be punctured once.

Now drink your entire test solution. Wait 30 minutes after sample #1 to complete your next breath sample. Repeat the steps above until all breath samples have been collected. Each breath sample must be collected 30 minutes apart (see sample collection times in Table 1).
